Be Relevant
Imagine a society occupied with people of like minds. A society where everyone knows and understand the importance of being their brothers keeper or Neighbour's watchman. A society where individuals look out for the needs of others and meet them rather than laugh / gossip about it. A society where everyone understands in the words of St. Augustine that "impunity against one is impunity against all." How beautiful life would be if such a society exist.
Some years back, precisely in 2008-2009 when the world was hit by global recession which was seen by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the worst of the four postwar recessions to have hit the world both in terms of the number of countries affected as well as in the decline of real World GDP per capita, it took the efforts of several Finance ministers as well as economic experts who were not necessarily members of the IMF to profer solutions with a view to save the globe from entering into a stage of global starvation. I consider that an act of togetherness aimed at achieving a common course.
There were individuals who complained about what government ought to have done to savage the situation. They were right but that wasn't the moment for the "blame game", rather it was one for a collective appraisal of the situation and proffering solution(s). While some continued to develop mastery for complaining, some developed their drive for proffering solutions and saved the day while some simply played the spectator role.
Most people are like the first set of individuals who rather than give solutions complained a lot about global leaders failure to have done the needful. I've always said to have known what is wrong, it's simply to know what the right thing is. Despite the complain they made rather than help deal with the economic crisis, the global economy was rescued from the financial plague not by the chief complainants but by the men and women who gave their day and night towards rescuing the globe from such economic cancer.
Don't be an individual that only sees the problem and never the solution. See the best in people as well as in every situation. Do not be blinded by the cloud of criticisms as opposed to the need to be relevant in effecting a positive change.
There are those who work behind the scene with a view to ensuring sustainable progress in various facet of life. That's the team we should endevour to be a part of. Endeavor to do everything right rather than being a part of the team of individuals who look for every opportunity to be noise makers/ critics. In our work place, schools, religious place, society and the nation at large, we should look out for challenges to fix rather than the ones to make noise about. Think about the people who arrange the jerseys and kits of sports men and women; they are never announced but they play a significant role in every sport team. They are invisible yet invaluable!
As much as possible, avoid people who complain a lot as well as those who only see the wrongs in people. Be comfortable around those who are positive in their thinking and remarks about others. If you must criticize, be constructive with it.
Remember you're a product of your thoughts. Keep your mind in a positive mood and speak positive into the life of that young man or woman that other people say nothing but negative things about. You can be the change agent that person needs to get better.
There's always a role to play but choose the role of relevance.
